Q. Which Statement is FALSE regarding the MRI findings in Bipolar Patients?

(a) Enlarged Amygdala is found in adult bipolar patients, and Smaller Amygdala in Younger bipolar patients.
(b) Hippocampus tends to be the same size in bipolar pt and healthy people.
(c) Increased Ventricular volume in multi-episode bipolar pt, compared to single episode bipolar pt.
(d) Increased Cerebellar Vermis Volume in multi-episode bipolar pt, compared to single episode bipolar pt.
(e) All are correct.
(f) All are wrong.

Explanation:

Structural changes with Bipolar Disorder includes:
(1) PREFRONTAL CORTEX:
- Decreased grey matter volume with age.

(2) STRIATUM:
- No difference in Putamen between first & multi episode pt

(3) CEREBELLUM:
- Decreased cerebellar vermis volume in multi vs first episode pt

(4) AMYGDALA:
- Enlarged Amygdala is found in adult bipolar patients, and Smaller Amygdala in Younger bipolar patients.

(5) VENTRICLES:
- Increased ventricular volume in multi vs single episodes pt
- Increased ventricular volume with number of affective episodes
