CME- Opioids in Primary Care

Program Overview:
The goal of this activity is to provide physicians with an overview of the risks and benefits of prescribing opioids for chronic pain. It will cover the clinical issues surrounding the initiation and long-term administration of opioid therapy, and the regulatory and legal concerns that must be appreciated to implement opioid therapy in a safe and effective manner.

Target Audience:
Pain specialists (anesthesiologists and neurologists), addiction specialists, general practitioners, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, policy makers, allied health professionals, fellows, residents, and medical students.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, the viewer will be able to:
* Recognize the risks involved with opioid treatment in the primary care setting.
* Assess whether opiod therapy is appropriate for a patient.

Determine the steps to take to optimize outcomes of opioid therapy in the primary care setting.
