depersonalization disorder
All of the following are true about depersonalization disorder except
A. More common in women
B. Onset usually in late adolescence or early adulthood
C. May last for weeks in adults
D. Reality testing impaired
E. Up to 50% have transient depersonalization symptoms at some point

Ans: D.

According to DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria: reality testing remain intact.
- Found 2-4 times more commonly in females
- Mean age of onset usually in late adolescence or early adulthood
- Course may be episodic, relapsing and remitting, or chronic
- Transient experiences of depersonalization and derealizaion are extremely common in normal and clinical population. They are third most commonly reported psychiatric symptoms after depression and anxiety.
