Publication opportunity in the American Journal of Psychiatry-Residents Division

This is a unique publishing opportunity for psychiatry residents and fellows, particularly child and forensic fellows.

Please consider writing a manuscript on any of the following topics or another related subject of your choice:

1) Approach, diagnosis and management of traumatized children in the inpatient setting
2) Different kinds of childhood trauma and their outcomes
3) Childhood trauma in the foster care system
4) Predictors of resilience after traumatic stress- this can include, but is certainly not limited to, any original research or review of the literature on the neurobiology of resilience
5) Predictors of PTSD development after traumatic stress in childhood- this can include, but is certainly not limited to, the neurobiologic and endocrinologic basis of PTSD development
6) Childhood trauma and attachment theory
7) Complex PTSD/Disorders of Extreme Stress NOS-what is it, how does it differ from PTSD, and how can we treat it?
Cool The cycle of violence- identification with the abuser and/or revictimization
9) Childhood traumatic brain injury and psychopathology-case reports, review of the literature
10) Child abuse and its correlations with any or all of the following: criminality, substance use, violence, suicide, dissociation
11) Evaluating a traumatized child in the forensic setting

Manuscripts that will be considered are:
1. Commentary: Generally includes descriptions of recent events, opinion pieces, or narratives. Limited to 500 words and five references.
2. Treatment in Psychiatry: This article type begins with a brief, common clinical vignette and involves a description of the evaluation and management of a clinical scenario that house officers frequently encounter. This article type should also include2-4 multiple choice questions based on the article’s content. Limited to 1,500 words, 15 references, and one figure.
3. Clinical Case Conference: A presentation and discussion of an unusual clinical
event. Limited to 1,250 words, 10 references, and one figure.
4. Original Research: Reports of novel observations and research. Limited to 1,250 words, 10 references, and two figures.
5. Review Article: A clinically relevant review focused on educating the resident
physician. Limited to 1,500 words, 20 references, and one figure.
6. Letters to the Editor: Limited to 250 words (including 3 references) and three
authors. Comments on articles published in The Residents’ Journal will be considered for publication if received within 1 month of publication of the original article.
7. Book Review: Limited to 500 words and 3 references.
